Belonging

Belonging

A Poem by Crimson

Just some late night ramblings :)

Belonging.

Such a small word but such a big concept,

And such a difficult one.

You might have a great group of friends,

an amazing family,

no real problems in life,

apart from one.

That ever-growing hole inside of you,

that you fear might never be filled.

As hard as you might try,

filling it with stories of adventure,

romance, excitement,

it's always there.

Ruthless, never satisfied,

no amount of imagination is ever enough.

That yearning for something more,

for something exciting,

yet terrifying to happen.

For you to be pushed to your limits,

and bounce back.

For you to be tested,

and to show everyone who you are,

and what you can do.

To unleash the inner leader inside of you,

the inner hero.

The one cursed to be trapped,

in a normal life.

The only brief escape being found in books,

or movies,

or the games you play as a child.

When you truly forget who you are,

for a split second,

you are the hero, the leader.

The queen,

the king,

the rebel leader.

Or simply the person who breaks past the system,

just someone who makes a difference.

That feeling, that hole,

is what feels like to not belong.

To feel like you were born for better things,

to feel like you should have been born inside of a book.

Inside of an impossible universe,

an impossible dream.

And while some people are content to,

live out their lives in silence.

To live normal lives,

even if they are amazing,

in a different way.

There are others,

that small percent of dreamers,

that will always strive for more.

That small percent-are the doctors,

fighting to cure disease.

The politicians,

campaigning to lead.

The inventors,

breaking past the impossible.

The authors,

creating other worlds.

That small percent of dreamers,

they are what keep this world progressing.

They proved themselves,

by getting past that hole,

and trying to do something about it.

They are people who never quite belonged,

but weren't meant to.

They were born to ask questions,

that no one knew the answer to,

they were born to dream,

to never be content.

To never belong.

So maybe that feeling isn't so bad,

maybe it's a blessing.

This is.... very splendid. It gives a feeling of everybody wanting to be completely equal and yet nobody is equal themselves. This is a very beautiful freestyle poem and it speaks to me in a way that describes wanting to be a part of what everyone else is part of. You did an amazing job, Crimson!
