Family

Family

A Poem by Luke Masters

I had a dream of friends and family,

Closeness and love flowing out from them freely.

In a dream they are perfect, in life they are not,

And just as well, because perfect things aren't so worthwhile.

We sat together in a place without limits

- My Heart, I think -

Family and friends back through the years, through the generations

All people together linked through a love of life and each other.

In my mind, you all say nothing - you don't have to

Because a smile that takes up a whole face speaks more loudly.

The children are there (and thank God for them).

They move about, too fast for us to follow

And I see in their faces something worth holding onto.

If only we could be like them. Again.

Our old friends are there too, those who have passed before us

And those who still bring their light into our lives.

I can see that they have so much to give, because they are our lives,

Our parents, our teachers, our loved ones, the people who watched us grow.

I hope they are content with all of their children sitting here before them.

I am.

And what more can I say? What more can I dream?

What is it that makes every one of these people family?

To me, it is that they came to me as my friends.

To me, it is that they left me as my blood,

My breath, my life, my hope, my glimpse of a world yet to be born,

A world hidden in the Mists of Tomorrow.

I cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings for all of us

God, bring our Family into the mists together.....
