Wildfire

Wildfire

A Poem by Rose Hagerty
"

We may go up in flames, but I'm not the one who lit the match.

"

Pulsating

Throbbing

Red hot iron lacerating

My insides boil and bubble

Iron metal spikes stab and jab my tongue

Words like fire sear and char my heart

As I flicker and flare

Scorching hot like an oven

You take a lighter

And light the match

A flickering spark ignites

And in a single second

It’s all it takes for me to combust

I scorch and sear

I become an inferno, bearing down

As my flames devour

I melt and scorch

The floor boards beneath where we stand

And up we go in flames

Crying and screaming out in pain

But when I die down and smoke and wither out

You and me singed and seared by the heat

All sizzled out

You brand me a wildfire

Out of control

But why then

Do you still hold

So tight and dearly

A lighter and gasoline in each hand?
