Flutterby

Flutterby

A Poem by CynRick Kincaid

Flutterby

When I was no more than this high

Playing in the bright sun outside

A pair of painted wings flew by

Could be a Monarch or Viceroy

Was just a dainty flutterby

Time passes and skyward I grew

From tricycle to bicycle

A new wide world i stepped into

My mother looked lovingly

Sad how sweet time flutters by you

Striking pattern blazing colors

Still for just a beat of the heart

They rest with their wings open wide

From the moth this sets them apart

Time passes and skyward i grew

Had my on adventuress child

Took an excursion to the zoo

Thought as we fed the zoo creatures

Sad how sweet time flutters by you

The orange and black painted nomad

Their young feed on tasty milkweed

Migration chain still a mystery

young find their way back to breed

Time passes and older i grew

my life was long and bountiful

Talents i was led to peruse

Like the speed of haley's comet

Sad how sweet time flutters by you

The bright colors leave a bad taste

A warning not to eat the prey

Nature's magic and gauranty

Of hue in Sera Madras

Grandson is no more than so high

Playing in the bright sun outside

A glitter catches his fresh eye

yellow swallowtail and pansy

I hope more than a flutter by

So the next time you see a flutterby

Take the time and delight in its wonder

Share The magic with the love of your eye

The lord cared just to let it flutter by

Oh, this is simply delightful!
I love the metaphor of a butterfly to life...
It got me thinking of this quote:
"Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man."

It's nice, I love this part,

"So the next time you see a flutterby
Take the time and delight in its wonder
Share The magic with the love of your eye
The lord cared just to let it flutter by"

The rest I sort of flicked over because it didn't seem to intrest me but I noted some good imagery and unfortunately some bad too.

This was a superb poem in every respect. I too am a 'fan' of butterflies and like how you incorporated them with 'life' in this. A lot of work went into this and it shows. Although this doesn't tie in with the contest theme, I'm glad I had the chance to read it. I loved it. Well done! Thank you for sharing this with us.
