Superman and Juliet

Superman and Juliet

A Poem by Cyprian Van Dyke
"

Superman and Lois Lane/Romeo and Juliet

"

Lois Lane, a nerds Juliet,

Waits on her balcony

For Superman.

Clark Kent descends,

As a nerds Romeo,

Superman!

Lois walks to him

As he slowly lands.

He speaks words of love

In his Kryptonian language.

She responds with love

But in English.

As Lois Lane feels

Superman’s body of steel,

She also feels...

A soft touch.

And after Superman saw

Lois Lane’s graceful walk

under the flame

That is her body,

They finally - kiss.

And for the first time in

Lois Lane’s life

She can understand her hearts morse code.

It translates “Clark Kent”

Synonyms are, “Romeo,” “Superman.”

But he knew the whole time that

His heartbeat translates “Lois Lane,”

Synonym “Juliet.”

and the love affair falls to the archenemy ."tragedy" ... for me this is a delightful read as the nerds and dorks of us rise on super power wings of love ...we do have a chance after all ... very smooth free form and your straight forward language brings the story home clear as a bell ... relating it to Shakespeare is clever ... it works and elevates the whole scene conjured ... so for me! i like it! fun, yet serious.

"Superman and Juliet'
Cyprian Van Dyke,
Your connections between the characters of Romeo and juliet is clever. Modern day or a depiction of the old love story. I appreciate the way you have thought and interpreted the relationship from the way both characters think and also from their reality from the stories about them.
"Lois walks to him as he slowly lands."
and
"She can understand her heart's Morse code."
The translation aspect is also good;
translates Clark Kent" and "his heartbeat translates "Lois Lane'
Fun poem and an interesting look at the inner works of these two characters.
blessings,
Kathy

An extra ordinary writing. As to the author's note, this poem is very novel, sentimental and romantic. I feel that you are a versatile writer. I hope to take time and read more of your work. Enjoyed the visit. Thank you for sharing.

This is beautiful, Cyprian.

The romantic story-telling aspect obviously made it worthwhile to read, for me.

And the use of metaphors and similes, to connect Lois Lane and Superman with Romeo and Juliet.

The simplicity at which you approached the subject matter made it for an easy, and I feel, powerful read.

(Something I need to work on; concision is valuable.)

Great job.

You're very good at 'setting a scene' and painting the characters with creativity and drawing parallels. The star-crossed lover theme comes up a lot in modern and classic culture/literature. Nice work.

a very interesting writer...the way you take tv and movie characters and give us poems that we can relate to with people in our lives...the times we feel like those characters, love like those characters...

the nerd's Romeo..yes, Clark Kent...

Lois and Clark...we all have our balcony scenes whether they are on balconies or not.

"Romeo and Juliet" was, of course, one of Shakespeare's tragedies - star-crossed lovers for whom lasting love could never be. I guess Superman and Lois Lane could never have a lasting love either, being from different planets. An interesting comparison!

Thank you very much for the review! Glad you liked my poem.
What an unusual comparison! I'm so happy you thought of it. Clark Kent and Lois Lane - Romeo and Juliet, that's genius.

Such a sweet piece which melted my heart. There's always a special place in my heart for these two tragic couples, and I'm happy you introduced them in a place together. I think they would have gotten along well, honestly. Imagine them going on double dates.

"her heart's morse code" What a beautiful phrase.

Well done and keep up the good work :)
