His Book

His Book

A Poem by Cyprian Van Dyke

Journey to the center of your imagination.

Her highlighter makes his words glow in the dark.

She sits with her teddy bear & reads about aliens.

He throws stars into her eyes,

The faster she reads the faster they go by.

But to every-one she gives sweet goodbyes.

Blown kisses, stained against the night sky.

As the chapter ends, she lands on his planet,

Just as he planned it.

She hugs her teddy bear tighter

& covers her lips with her hand.

Her head shakes in disbelief.

Then she goes on reading again.

Measuring each word she has read,

She has traveled miles, already,

Without even leaving her room.

This is just the beginning of her journey

Her voyage, her rendezvous.

She can't wait to continue!

To follow, an alien spots her

& her teddy bear & gets up close and personal.

He smells her hair & bubble gum breath

& gets inspired, by her & her pet.
