Soft Apples

Soft Apples

A Poem by D Connolly
"

disappointment abounds

"

There's many things in this world of ours

That make me cringe, and are so foul

But soft apples are at the top of my list today

Because they make me doubt all of my decisions

It's one thing to know before

That the apple is mediocre, and nothing more

But to entice me with a crisp shine on the outside

Only to find that the core is unappetizing

Is simply mean and uncalled for

"Soft Apples"
D.Connolly,
"But to entice me with a crisp shine on the outside only to find that the core is unappetizing
is simply man and uncalled for."
This one line was what caught my attention. How many times does someone come to hold a lovely fresh apple and bite into it with anticipation and find out the effort and hunger are now not to be satisfied properly? I think expectations are sometimes needed but we don't always find an expected end.
Your poem was so fun to read and analyze!

"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it." Genesis 3:6

We all know what happened after that.

They don't call it "forbidden fruit" for nothing. Nice job. Very thought provoking. Great write.

Ha! It always feels like I've been duped when this happens to me. It's great that you can find poetry in the simplest things in life. Short and fun read.

thank-you very much!
Yeuch, they gross me out too, as do warm apples. I think there should be a rule that if you are sold a dodgy apple, then you should be allowed to bounce it off the sellers head....from a long way away :)

It's always worth peeling away a few layers first of all before fully committing to the initial visual appeal!

Wonderfully appetising in the poetic sense of course !

Definitely true
and so many people are like this...shiny on the outside, looking so nicely ripe...ready to indulge in a relationship....

and then one bite and we realize we have been totally fooled...

we are thrown out of that garden of trust.

You're welcome. :)
interesting.......is it not natures way of preparing us for unsure expectations? The beautiful, Michigan
Delicious apples seem to go first....Then the Honey Crisp.....then the Washington's/ but somehow nature preserves the outside....(like just about every metaphor you can name on earth) while the inside goes
to ruin.....I love the simplicity of your writing.....That disappointment abounds is a metaphor
for existence.....

I love your style......dana

Aw well, your five a day just went down to four. Get a case of beer to replace the apples. That's hard core.

You're not the only to get fooled by those lousy apples. I once chose a girl who looked great on the outside but turned out to just be a pretty goblin. Oh, the futility of trying to avoid goblins and mushy apples!
