Don't Slip

Don't Slip

A Poem by D. Connolly
"

The office is a dangerous place

"

It's not a thing I'm proud of, to want to see you fall

But your actions here are really gross, and I don't care for you at all

Look how proud you stand there, whistling like a bird

But I hear a very different tune; A squawk is what I heard

"Look at me! Look at me!", desperation in your eyes

You need everyone to love you, but I see through your disguise

Your veiled contempt for rivalries isn't missed by me

I saw the passing look of fear, you cannot hide your greed

Taking parts of another's work and claiming as your own

You sit on piles of betrayal and lies, making it a throne

Like the crow that rides the eagle's wings, I know you think you're slick

You're stepping on heads to break your fall, its just a parlor trick

I always try to see the best in the people that I meet

I'm not boastful of another's flaws, of those, I am discreet

But when I hear your bumptious claims that put down all the others

I can't help but want to protect my sisters and my brothers

I watch you dancing close to the edge of office politics

And while I won't push you over the ledge...

I'd love to see you slip

There is a new woman here and she is HORRIBLE! She won't last long; everyone knows what she's doing.

There is always that "one co-worker". Most of them all have the same weakness. Themselves. Only the weak pray upon their own species. Just don't give her anything to thrive on and act like shes not even there, and her luck will run out. I enjoyed your write. Have a great day.

thank-you Joe, good to see you. I'll be stopping by your page when I get a little time. :)
This is a delicious slice of honesty about a very unlikeable person. You've done a great job using well-described details with good rhyme & rhythm. I love the underlying idea that you want to see this person fall. I know a few people who I'd love to see fall & one is preparing for the presidency! *wink! wink!* You've got this so right.

Hi! Thank-you Margie ;)
Hummmmn, that banana peel is just around the break room, and I would wager that no one else will stop and pick it up to keep her from slipping on it.
Sorry you have to endure such a person, but apparently from what you say, she shall be her own "undoing".

Haha! Reminds me of 'Horrible Bosses' movie and also one of the firm where I worked earlier. Wish she could have a look at this and gather herself to sanity to cause less trouble.

Very entertaining!

Oh goodness me...haha this piece is a bit of brilliance. I love your style!

Totally different scenario but I endured a semester with a girl who just sponged off the efforts of everyone else in the class and because that wasn't enough she was in all my group assessments. With all my love I hope she crashed and burned during finals. Starz

I guess one of the reasons i never worked in an office.. its stupid politics... but then not a whole lot different on the shop floor...

Your poem could also extend into the world as well with recent events... a sad world in deed... thanks for a good read as i do my laundry D...

there we go ..failed again ;{ no jokes from this old codger... never was good at them .. ;)
This personality exists in other realms - not just the office - they always try to impress the boss and some bosses are easily fooled but the good ones aren't I find.
Writing poetry to vent is certainly preferable to getting involved in the dirty world of work politics.
Good one Dani Connolly!
