Shoulders of the World

Shoulders of the World

A Poem by D Connolly
"

A ride on my dad's shoulders

"

Riding high on the shoulders of the World

I recall taking the plum from the tree

The sweetest flavor I can ever remember

Today I relish the memory

The sweetness of that day lingers still

Riding high on the shoulders of the World

Author's Note

D Connolly
Walking through the forests of Germany on a march with my dad, which we did often, I took a plum from a tree, just as described, and I remember that sweetness so well, 30+ years later. The sweetest part of the memory is being on my dad's shoulders and just being with him.

'Shoulders of the World'
D.Connolly,
High on the shoulders of your Daddy..what else could a little girl need?
The feeling is, "I am loved, I am wanted, needed and cherished.'
The sweetness of belonging and finding it delicious is matched by the
treat of a plumb while on the 'shoulders of the world' Your world.
Blessings,
Kathy

I loved the subtle reference that your Dad meant the world to you. It's an old expression that rarely heard these days. The pleasure of being a child , now so tall that you could pluck fruit straight off the tree conjures up wonderful memories of "achievement". Life was so simple, yet awe inspiring to us during that phase.
Gently impressive writing , Dani.

The saying 'Standing on the shoulders of giants' comes to mind Dani. To us they are giants and their stature is huge reflecting their influence on us and they get (physically) smaller as we get bigger but their influenec never wanes.
This is beautiful as is the wee memory you've kindly shared with us here. Thank you.

~ very mellifluous poetry... it's a little girl heart song which protects, preserves, and celebrates innocence and enthusiasm and even a zest for life and all things fascinating waiting to be explored (all the way into adulthood)... and also makes this reader hold on to magical memories in which her dad went down on his knees to waltz with her while listening to lara's theme from dr. zivago...
