Copper Crown

Copper Crown

A Poem by D. Connolly
"

I was startled by the beauty of a tree in my neighbor's yard

"

Twas trick of yonder setting sun cast gold upon the grounds

The lengthening of shadows made monsters of my hounds

Looking towards the bleeding sky to watch the sun go down

I was romanced into poetry by the copper of your crown

I tried to name the color, but names, they do abound...

A lighter shade than ochre, not quite a sultry brown

More golden than a fallow, camel, or any tawny that I've found

No, there's nothing quite as pretty as the copper of your crown

I looked up, and the golden sunlight was perfectly highlighting the top of this tree. Who knows if it was a trick of the light, but the color was just startling and beautiful

Fleeting and precious, always changing and ever constant
It is like our mind is a camera. Very good read.

Morning Miss D, you captured the scene very well. Niw, grab an axe, chop it down and make yourself a rocking chair to enjoy every sunset !!!

LOL, very funny! I think my neighbor would kill me ;)
This reminds me of the golden hour, which is my favorite time of day. I always find myself stopping to look at everything surrounding me, because it all looks so beautiful in that golden sunlight. I also enjoy your writing style!

wow, thank-you so much mark
In Autumn when the leaves change to yellows and reds, there always seems to be that one tree with a coppery brown hue so ethereal it almost hurts to look at. You captured that here, Dani. Good write

thank-you Ted
Very nicely done. It is often difficult to capture a feeling or a visual. This poem is a fine example of doing both.
