Arithmetic

Arithmetic

A Poem by Sarah Jane

One plus one, one plus two
Equals my relationship to you
They dont seem like much
Just numbers, just words
But three is a crowd
When my baby's not yours
One plus one, one plus two
I wish it was, but isnt true
These gestures and feelings
Mixed up and all jumbled
They weigh heavy tonight
And I've been humbled
One plus one, one plus two
No one on Earth could ever blame you
I understand your hesitation
A fancied freedom, a foreign thought
Ill miss this love that never was
This math was all for naught

I wanna say I have an angle about what this is be about, but I believe I've delved into the realm of the metaphysical - the kind of poetry that required multiple reads to uncover the true meaning. On top of that, the imagery is great, the musicality fluid, this indeed lives and breathes. Well done!
