A Poem by Snow In July
"

Written while waiting for my psychiatrist to fill out a prescription.

"

"Who are you?" she asks
Her tone short and her hair long
Her glasses fogged, but her mind clear
I pause
Who am I?
She doesn't want to hear about my heartbreak
Or the monsters in my head,
clawing me to pieces from the inside out.
She doesn't want to hear what happens when their claws make it to the surface
"I'm..." I pause
I don't really know.
I fidget with my jacket
leather
as I think, trying to remember myself
I'm
a) a hollow shell
b) broken
c) crying on the inside
She doesn't want to hear any of that
I smile finally
"I'm a lie. A lie in a very nice jacket."
