Angel Child

Angel Child

A Poem by Dalebear

She has her own secret wings

The sadness and pain that she sings

No one see’s behind those close doors

She had to hide the bruises she wore

This sad little girl who has been beaten

She walks around weak which she hasn’t eaten

Her soul is shattered and tattered

From which she was so bruised and battered

Her eyes streamed with painful tears

She was an angel trying to fight her fears

Until one day she flew away

Which she had no more demons to slay

This little girl has been set free

The monsters and demons are finally let be

This brittle angel with the brittle broken heart

In she goes to heaven with a new clean start

She floats and flies

Through the never-ending skies

Of her wings of blue

As she got to heavens gates she finally smiles too

What a beautiful poem. It's dark and sad, but it very uplifting.

This is so sad and touching. I always had a teensiest bit of contempt for the way abused children always end up either dying and going to heaven or being rescued by some perfect family in songs and poems, but that's just me. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful poem and I really enjoyed it. Very well written!

oh dale - this poem is beautiful - and haunting - and its stark and sad - and yet, filled with hope too - the song 'concrete angel' is beautiful - but your 'angel child' here - well this is something else - it outdoes the song by miles - and i say this while i'm listening to the song - :) - you tell her story with such compassion and delicateness - that it moves me to a place beyond the song - you're a genius - i agree with everyone who came here - serah, paul, mamabear, rosy, jinglerjbelle!!! your magic with words and the purity of your soul shine in this poem!!! beautiful!!!
