Stitches & Scars

Stitches & Scars

A Poem by Damien Thibodeaux
"

On a long flight home from San Diego recently, I plugged in the headphones and listened to Queens of the Stone Age's, "Like Clockwork" and NIN's, "Hesitation Marks". I closed my eyes and visualized..

Stitches & Scars                  March 2014

Hypnotized by her mesmerizing gaze

and psychotic smile

Watching the irregular patterns drip

lovely crimson like holy wine

“Taste my love, it’s all for you”, she said

Through hazed windows, tortured souls with suicide dreams

wander through these ancient streets, forgiving no one their transgressions

Yet their ignorance betrays them

But inside here, the razor burns so good

O, blissful release!

He reflects upon her stitches and scars

His heart cries and his ego thinks

He can save her… But, he can’t save her

Through hazed windows, tortured souls with suicide dreams

wander through these ancient streets, staggering into their regression

Moving to rhythmic gothic beat

Calling him her dark angel, her saviour

brings her no relief

They raved for days down in the catacombs

That was not deep enough for her,

descending where he could not follow

Through hazed windows, tortured souls with suicide dreams

wander through these ancient streets, with eyes wide open and mouths sewn shut

In silent expression of pain

Laying together on the cold stone floor

Naked and entwined

With lips stained from the metallic liquid

He stares into her eyes and says,

“Vous etes dans mon coeur et dans ma tete”

Through hazed windows, tortured souls with suicide dreams

dance throughout these ancient streets; they’re all bound up with stitches and scars

They’ll renew again tomorrow

Even tho the bulk of your message expertly screams "suicide", I had a side-thought while reading about how sometimes in my youth, I noticed people are more attentive when you're desperate, whereas they tend to leave you alone if you're high-functioning. People love a "project" . . . someone to save. This was prompted by your line about thinking we can save, but we can't (((HUGS)))

It hurts trying to help someone through such a tough time like this. All you have to do is be there for them...help inspire a change. Help change their perspective. They may feel stuck, but there is always a way out. I've been through this as a personal experience and it was so difficult to make others understand why I did it. I'm over it now, but it took me a long time to realize that it wasnt worth it...

Thank you so much Rachel. This poem is very special to me. I am glad it touched your heart.
this is quite enchanting in a dark twisted magical spell that draws the reader in deeper and deeper... some of the phrasing you used was not only powerful, but brilliant.. and the subtle use of repetition was done perfectly.. it added a layer of intensity and meaning.. I am truly impressed with this piece..

"His heart cries and his ego thinks
He can save her… But, he can’t save her"......

"Calling him her dark angel, her saviour
brings her no relief"................................those lines hit me the hardest.. in life it is easy to think that we can be the answer to someone's prayer, be all that they need to be happy, that we can save someone who is drowning, but sadly, it is not the case.. just because you think you have found the man of your dreams doesn't mean that is reality..

easily going into my favorites.. I thoroughly enjoyed.. :)

You're welcome, it was my pleasure.
This is probably your inspiration, but this reminded me of the cask of amontillado for some reason.
I guess because it's dark and it knows. It's intentions are bad, but it's charming.
