I'm Sorry Mom (Poem)

I'm Sorry Mom (Poem)

A Poem by Damien Davison
"

Last writing I will be submitting for a while, I figured I should write a tribute to my mother.

"
I'm sorry mom,
For all the times I went against what was right.
You told me,
"When someone talks, boy, you look them in the eye."
I'm sorry,
You expected something great from my life.
But the drugs quickly dimmed
Who you've always thought was bright.

You saw me,
Go through s**t you could hardly understand.
You screamed out.
Could you see remnants of my old man?
I'm sorry,
The path I chose was not part of the plan.
But you kept up with support,
And always lent a helping hand.

I would starve.
I left home at sixteen, living on my own.
Then I'd call,
"Hey mom, think you could bring me just a loaf?"
She'd show up,
A car-load full of groceries, soap for laundry loads.
Then I'd wonder to myself,
"Why the f**k did I leave home?"

Not much changed,
I can't seem to keep a grip on success.
Addiction beat,
Though I can't say that I'm better than the rest.
I got my girl...
Am I a good dad, come on, let's be honest.
Mom, I need a true answer...
Mom, how can I fix this?

Nice poem, a great tribute to that anchor in our lives that keeps us steady, I love my mom too and she has helped me through some real s**t. This is a great poem and very well worded, the emotions are real and raw and I really like it...great write!

Awesome poem! Story of my life, i love this poem. It is a wonderful thing when a mother can keep her love strong for her children through the good and the bad.

"When someone talks, boy, you look them in the eye."

I'm glad you could relate, Jamal, thanks for taking the time!
That's sweet, and kinda sad too. It's a wonderful tribute to your mother. I dunno how life would be if I listened to mine half the time, but y'know... Good job. :)

Oh my this was just beautiful, I love this poem. Dedicated to your mom is awesome, I wish I could tell my mom I was sorry for the things I have done or said in my life. She has always been right, though I refused to listen to her and now that I am older I know that she was right.

This was so great, I would love to be able to tell my words like this and dedicate it to my mom and put it on her grave:)

It does project the image of a quiet and loyal mother without being unrealistic.

Well how can it be unrealistic when it's a true story? lol. Thank you for reading!
This is such a lovely tribute to your mom, it speaks volume, now and then we have to stand still how good they are for us, and be happy if we still have one...
Truly heartfelt, thank you Damien :)

“Tomorrow I could say that used to be my husband but I will never say that used to be my child” my mum used to say that to me. Whenever I messed up she would say that she loved me more than I could ever hurt her or disappoint her. I don’t have any kids and I don’t think I can understand how they manage to be amazing and loving despite us...until I do.
I don’t mean to overstep and if I do, please know I didn’t mean to. You asked how you could fix it...I think you’ll find that she doesn’t see that there is anything to fix. Just the fact that you’ve come this far must mean the world to her. You are her baby and always will be.
I hope you have shown her this, I can’t imagine this not meaning the world to her. And she’ll know, that you’re not just sorry when s**t hits the fan but when you sit alone and think...you’re sorry there too and that is the sorry that counts.
Have I told you I admire you, I'm sorry my reviews aren’t objective. I’m overly emotional and I can’t forget what you’ve lived through and such.
Sorry for babbling!!

Woah woah woah, slow down, your making me feel good about myself! lol I appreciate it, truly!
This touched my heart. Although we take paths in our lives that are not always the right ones our parents should always be there for support and that is not always the case. You are blessed to have a mom that cares. I will miss your writing.
