What You See

What You See

A Poem by Lydia Jamison

We learn from our mistakes,
We take what we take,
And give to others what we want.

I've done some things wrong,
But I'm not the only one.
Get over yourself, you can't talk.

No matter what you say or do,
I'm still a person too.
I'm allowed to think the way I want.

I'm not the same person as before,
I've learned so much more.
What you see isn't always what you've got.

There's nothing wrong in stepping down,
Because I'll never wear your frown,
And in the end, I know I'm still strong.
