Determined Dancer

Determined Dancer

A Poem by Tasha
"

Creative poetry extra challenge: 3rd set: devious, temperamental, proactive, persistent, dominant, charismatic

"
Persistent rehearsals
for the night of truth...
recital night,
hoping to make it
to the top of the pack...
competition dancing,
proactive and ready
to show off what I've learned,
tempermental backstage
because of my nerves
trying to overcome the feeling
"I'm going to mess up"
charismatic with it being my first recital
compared to other people who have danced for years
devious in getting the audience
to connect with the dance,
dominant and proud
of the cheering
when we're finished
determined to get what I want...
I'll do whatever it takes
to get where I want to go

It seems a little forced, like it doesn't really belong in poem format...or there might be a better way you could phrase your ideas to make it more engaging. Perhaps breaking it up into stanzas with each one dealing with a different aspect--your preparation, ambition, nerves, etc. But as someone who used to love dancing, I could relate to this.

I think that you captured the essence of these emotions very well. I have friends who dance competitively and know what they go through week after week!

The sentiment is perfect... however you may find it useful to revisit this piece and work on the flow of the words. At 16 I hope that you won't be discouraged by the feedback and constructive criticism you will receive by posting to this group! Many people will not realise your age and so will expect you to have the writing and life experience of someone much older.

i've had ballet lessons before but i never got the chance to continue... you let out emotions required for that feat but i think you have to learn how to put correct punctuations and end some sentences to make it readable to your readers

I think this poem is a modern day, more entertaining, confidence boosting re-telling of "The Little Engine That Could." This is a poem you should write down on a small piece of paper, put it in your pocket, and read it backstage right before you go on stage.

There's this great sense of preparation as the curtain's about to rise. You really get the anxiety and excitement across in this poem. Good job :)

making the choice of just how far you will go - is a fine line in the sand... effort and skill are two sides of a coin... balance is a necessity.

Take care,
Chris
