Writing The Heart

Writing The Heart

A Poem by DannyLynne Riley

It is ink not blood

that runs through my veins

and a poets pen that obtains it

a clever refrain

on an endless white page

holds my feeble attempt

to contain it

how do you write

your entire heart

using only a ledger

of symbols and marks

that make up the words

to a limited language

in a contemplation

of clever arrangements

and you toil and strive

but its never quite right

as the words

that you search for

always just out of sight

Because surely

there must be something else

something unseen

and only felt

between the prism

of well polished words

that's neither

adjective noun or verb

but more like a dimensional

alphabetical extension

a literary equation

beyond definition

where living words ring

like delicate bells

and come in all colors

flavors and smells

and dance upon pages

in the liveliest fashion

giving birth to the glory's

of heart ache and passions

because words are more

than just marks on a page

they're a quantum experience

of all they convey

and so...it is with this quest

I dare to boldly write

To bless this glorious mess

on a page called my life
