My Boy

My Boy

A Poem by Dark Tower

My Boy

It's graduation day
I'm in the front row
My smile is so big
I want every other parent to know
That you're my kid
To see all you've achieved
We had ups and down
But every step of the way I believed

High School
You were a trouble maker
Constant rule breaker
We worked hard as a family
To keep your grades up
Everywhere you did wrong
You would make up
Born lucky you never needed braces
Girls could never get enough of you
Could see it in their faces
They all thought that you were amazing
But you're such a sweetheart
You know the fragile nature of love
And decided rather to put it in your art
You'd shown signs of artistic talent from the start

Primary school
Just like every other kid you're obsessed with being cool
Somehow you passed
Even though most days you had better things to do than pay attention in class
Sports you loved and you had no competitor
If only in detention you weren't a regular
But dad is understanding
Life's full of knocks but you've got to keep on standing
You'll never know just how much to me being your dad means

What a wonderful life we could've had
I think about you so much
It makes me sad
You were the closest thing to completion that I have ever felt
In the weeks you were alive
I pictured us
Beautiful son with his father by his side
I didn't even know had the parent gene in me
Until you were a factor
After that nothing else really mattered
You are the inspiration behind everything I now do
I love you my son Cholani
If only your mom hadn't aborted you.
