How Lovely is the Winter's Flesh

How Lovely is the Winter's Flesh

A Poem by Walter Scott Morrison
"

A poem I wrote as both a metephor for death and a literal sense as well. I hope that the subject is both beautiful and dark

"

How Lovely is the Winter’s Flesh

How lovely is the winter’s flesh,

That hath covered the earth a’gloom,

It leaves the autumn spiritless,

And walks me amongst its doom.

Beneath the birch the cardinal cries,

In a strange curiosity,

The winter swallows the empty nest,

Its lover dead beneath the tree.

In homage doeth the winter fall,

Forcing the mind to compel,

The beauty of the world forgot,

And the spirit that lay restless still.

O'yes, the frozen air, leaves the autumn spiritless, and it has a certain effect on you.
the second stanza, gives a perfect insight, into the deep of winters can be, death, frozen, lost, and no new life, even death around the corner, yes...
The spirit that lay restless and philosophical still in the last stanza, is in doubt, of going out, and just dare to freeze, feel and notice how beautiful these winters of a true -20 European degrees can be. I always go out, personally wear my cap, ear muffs, gloves... and jump into the death for a while, to be reborn against the hearth, after... with a hot choco.

Lovely write, I already talked to much, to Dutch.
See you, and thanks for this amazing poetry.

This is stunning...and yes dark, but incredibly sharp images that impact the reader. A flawless flow...good work...

Very beautiful piece- the rhythm was a bit odd to me, but wonderful otherwise.

Well it is beautiful and it is dark, I see your talent shining through. I like the language and the portrait you create with words. Definitely your best.
