Lies the mirror tells

Lies the mirror tells

A Poem by Absentee Reality Check

The mirror lied with careful poise

it gave a false description of this boy that didn't exist

he never had

there must have been some confusion

with Alice mixing it up on the other side

because this mirror was telling falsehoods

but  how did she get my mother to think mad hatter thoughts

and call me a boy too?

why does my body join in on the trick?

I waited for puberty to provide me with the truth

but my breasts never came.

this cosmic joke came tumbling down into my mirror world

I was born a girl, now a woman

I was born a boy, meant to become a man

I was born in a body , to which I don't belong

I hope Alice doesn't mind if I shatter the mirror.

Incredibly well written poem on an interesting subject.
It must be horrible to be "betrayed" by the universe in this way.
I like the Alice reference, it fits quite well with the madness of the situation of being born in the wrong body.
A great take on how the mirror can lie.
