Little Brother

Little Brother

A Poem by Absentee Reality Check
"

a young woman sacrifices her little brother for the good of the tribe.

"
The gods cried out for blood.
Blood for crops.
Blood for rain.
Blood of the future for the future.
He smiled guilelessly that morning,
like the sun rising in the winter.
Bright and chilling her to the core
because she knew
that the next sunrise would be stained crimson
and his ashes
would float through the air,
settling with every breath
to leave behind the taste of sacrifice
bitter and acrid on her tongue.
The canyon echoing with his screams
mixing with thunder of the new clouds on the horizon.

Scary. Even though I have read many stories about sacrifices, i still find it hard to believe that they are done. This poem is sad but maybe it was for the better of the tribe. Sad, scary ending also.. i get the feeling that it means the sacrifice worked. (Just don't wanna jump in thinking i'm right and i'm not.)

Also just a question, i don't wanna offend, but is the second to last sentence
"The canyon would echoing with his screams" supposed to be like that?
