The Table Remembers

The Table Remembers

A Poem by Absentee Reality Check
"

What happens over the life cycle of the table...

"
the table remembers the four
smiling laughing joking eating
life happened around its four corners
quick fast hard easy
it remembers the cracking of the eggs along its edge
and the clatter of dishes upon its top
it remembers the insistent press of a face and
broken fingernails scrabbling on the varnish
the warm moistness of tears
and the muffled chocking of sobs
the table remembers the three
