Reflection Perplexion

A Poem by Floydina White

Thoughts go racing through my mind
as I think of you. I come to find
your selfishness abrasive
and your emotions elusive,
so I have come to the conclusion
that I'm in love with an illusion
of the guy I used to know.
Doesn't your true self show
when you look in the mirror?
Or, is it merely a protector
to hide behind? Why do we
Feign contentment just not to see
what's really there; then pretend
everything will be fine at the end?
