A Poem by Moonflower

We won't talk about the weather

  Yeah I know that winter

  gets you down

And I'll just try to smile cause

You don't ever want to see me frown

You said that you love me and swear

  to tell the truth

I know that we all lie

just to cover up the roots

  (animalistic behavior)

They only get us farther down the line

Yeah I'll watch your face as all the pain and

guilt resides

If only you could see the way that

these tears fell from my eyes

A river of reflections, sinking and drowning

   "Why"'s

OH what were you looking for

when you walked out your door

(and turned off your phone)

Did her smiling eyes reflect her golden winters glow?

Did her laughter brush lightly across your fingertips,

frowning when you had to go?

I'll never forgive these stony skies,

these bleak and whispering good byes

Because I know that

you never loved

the winter.

I don't read poems with personal/ relationship references, but I have to comment here. I agree with the combination of delicacy and power. It's amazing how love and the winter merged in this poem, only to give shape to the one in pain, the one who is left behind, unwanted, just like the winter cold. I loved it, and it's probably going to my favourites. You have a way with words. Keep it up!

wow. Very touching poem. The words though delicate have great power in them.
I was particularly inspired by the line ''Did her laughter brush lightly across your fingertips,
frowning when you had to go?''

Great write!

it sounds more like a song to me...but what's the difference really. This could be and awesome song in case you hadn't considered that already.

Particularly i like, "a river of reflections. sinking and drowning "whys" as an expressive line. There is enough "space" in this piece to allow ones own creative input...in other words it is REAL

This poem makes me think of a love that one has long lost. Amazing poem. I've favourited it.

Love the raw emotions of this piece. What I love about winter are the dark and reflective times that she forces on us with her earthy colors and stark staging. This pours out through your poem. Remarkable poem.

Love the expressions here; the parallels to winter and heartbreak. Beautiful and agonizing at the same time...

A amazing poem. I like the feel of a conversation of trying to find a purpose or reason. I like the ending a lot.
"I'll never forgive these stony skies,
these bleak and whispering good byes
Because I know that
you never loved"
A outstanding poem.
