How Long...

How many times do I have to hear,
“I'll be there, you can trust me” and you don’t show
before I stop inviting you?

 

How many times do I have to hear,
"I’ll call you"
and I wait by my phone for nothing
before I stop talking to you?

 

How long do I have to stand,
making plans for a date
and you don’t show because you fell asleep
before I just give up?

 

How far do I have to walk away
before you realize I’m not there?

 

How long do I have to be away
before you start missing me?

 

How long do I have to cry
before you realize that this really hurts me?

 

How long do I take your apologies
before I just leave?

 

And how long do you have to apologize
before you start meaning it?

i love this. how i can relate. this is strong yet subtle write, a subject so many of us deal with, yet never really address.
