You think you do

You see me everyday

Talk to me

Laugh with me

Cry with me

But you don’t see inside me

You never did

And I doubt you

Ever will

You judge me

You punish me

You insult me

You hurt me

You put rules on me

But you know no part

Of me

You never cared enough

To understand

To try

I’ve lived my whole life

By your side

But you don’t know me

You see who

You want to see

You put down your laws

And paint me a path

To my own future

But you’re no me

And I am no you

Don’t carve your expectations

Into my skin

I have none

I am what I am

Who I am

And who I will become

Has nothing to do with you

It’s my life

My future

My world
