A Letter to My Heart

A Letter to My Heart

A Poem by Gabri

I told my heart to be strong and I told it to remember the stars which are always bright and true. I told my heart to wait without hope and I told my heart to be still. But still it clamors, demanding to be felt, demanding to be consulted and demanding answers. Oh troubling heart! Be still! Be still! And instead of peace it responds with weariness and grows heavier still. I sometimes wonder what happens to joy when it disappears. Where is it hidden? Will I find it among the folds of an old letter or tucked as a bookmark between pages? Or does it really get lost? Perhaps it travels halfway around the world to lodge in another, more needful heart. Oh heart! Remember the stars! Remember what is true and cling to it with both hands. Do not let it fly away.
