Soldier

Soldier

A Poem by D. Nelson

Soldier, Soldier,

No tears for the sheep- The fear will hold me over,

but I'm not over the brink yet, And to think,

I once professed love for the thing and the urge to hold her,

I'm left a shell, out-wept, soul ripped open and nothing to show for it,

Hoping it's through with but to tell the truth " no, I'm still not over it.

I am a soldier, her soul with which I do battle -

the same soul that burned my bridge and left the village ravaged.

I am ragged, bad, but not yet damaged,

rotten like the apple, her forbidden fruit I sampled and now you can call me Adam.

the serpent slipped in and usurped her, remained hidden the shadows,

but I am the silent gardener, I crept silently and sneak, upon the snake,

I reap the seeds of what I've sewn and beg forgiveness for my heaven's sake.

I am a warrior, protector of my fate, never give in, I disregard the heart that aches.
