Landfill Empire

Landfill Empire

A Poem by dramamine

High on plastic elation, she ran away, chasing her starry eyed temptations.

Stitched and buttoned on her pattern of blame, wasting away atop their landfill empire.

All of the pretty houses and pretty dresses, all she wants is the center-fold fame.

A doll made in a Hollywood basement, she was blinded by the neon glare.

Bleached blond and hung out to dry in the factory square.

Molded the perfect figure, blurred flaws, flashing lights in her line of sight.

Pumped through the money machine, stripping for fortune at the age of fourteen.

Born and raised by the tabloid pages, educated in TV quotations, living in the age of silver screen fixation.

Manufactured and packaged by the holy foundation, cancer is the new sensation.

Drenched in gasoline and swimming in the rivers of black gold, her body was sold.

Injecting poison to break the spell of aging, bleeding chemicals to do what she’s been told.

She’ll never escape the prison of her own world.

this is such a hard-hitting piece, Twiggy... the title's reference to Hollywood being a 'landfill empire' conjures a stark image from the get go (i can see the plastic dolls piling up as they find themselves too scarred from too many surgeries to make the cut any longer)...and the 'i will do what i have to to achieve that perfect body' attitude is what those 'TV quotations' project in shows, movies, music videos, and advertisements...what's sad is that these people know what lies ahead, but like many youth (myself included at one point in time), they have to make their own mistakes, and, by the time they realize it, it's too late - they've already fallen victim to the 'money machine'...it is true: we do make our own beds upon which we must lie... great work, my friend

Critique: The sentence structure makes this a little hard to read, I would be happy to help you with that if you would like.
Review: Wow! Great prospective and some fantastic phrases (wasting away atop their landfill empire) (Born and raised by the tabloid pages) (living in the age of silver screen fixation) (Drenched in gasoline and swimming in the rivers of black gold) each of these individual lines could be turned into a poem now that is inspiring. This is very powerful and so true, I love it :~)
