Ponder

Ponder

A Poem by Doodley
"

Deep thoughts.

"
When we all pass and cease to be,
What becomes of you? What becomes of me?

Do we sleep forever on a wandering cloud?
Or are we cast down to Lethe, where the souls scream aloud?

Do we become the ripples of the waves on the seas?
Or the wind that sighs through the valley of trees?

Do we become the sunbeams that light up the day?
Or sentinels of the living, to chase nightmares away?

Do we become just a memory, of a life lived, now gone?
Or the thunder in the cymbals, of an orchestral song?

There is no way of knowing, there is not much to say,
When the heart stops its beating, and we pass on our way.

So the rhetorical questions of when we cease to be,
Are - What becomes of you? What becomes of me?

Perhaps we like to believe that there's a happy world on the other side only because that's the only thing we can do...believe.
I really like all the possibilities you've mentioned in the lines. If only we could choose what we'd like to be!
Indeed a question to be pondered upon. And that's how you make the readers put on their thinking caps!

Deep thoughts indeed. What does become of us when we cease to be? We will become treasured memories for the friends and family who love us. By keeping us in their thoughts, in a way we still have a place here on earth. When there is no one left to remember us, that's when we cease to have any meaning in my opinion. I'm quite spiritual, I'd like to think I'd be dancing on moonbeams or riding a comet's flare. For others, they may envisage their own particular heaven. Who knows, we can only surmise. I enjoyed your poem Dooley and where it took me.

Well Doodley, wherever I'm going it's coming to fast. Can't say I'm to bothered as I'm into the incinerator. Will hopefully stay alive in the minds of family for a generation or to.
One to make us think.
Nicely written

Sunbae, This has a fairytale feeling in it. What will happen to us when our soul leaves the body, these thoughts come to everyone once in a while...I liked how you questioned these thoughts through quoting different elements of existence/nature.
This has that innocence quotient in it.
Beautifully written ! Very very nice like always :-)

PS: I would like to meet aliens after my death, so I still wish to have an invisible form.

I suppose all different races would give their own view on this.
Would be nice to think there was a rewind button when i go.
Actually i think as you get older, there's a fast forward button in action.
Food for thought.

The tittle caught me and I chose this one. The Pondering is on in your Ponder and all those possibilities are sweetly pondered.
In my country, a lot has been said about the journey after death. Our sages say that when a soul attains enlightenment or nirvana, the soul becomes sublime and gets absorbed in the forces of nature. And then, what you have pondered can happen. You can be anywhere and everywhere in the sublime form because then one becomes a part of the existence. But, if we do not get enlightenment then we are in cycle of birth after birth.
As I was reading this sweet, well rhymed work of yours,I started visualizing those things, as for me, these are possible.
A very well written piece of poetry. Keep it up !!

Great poem and I'm sure this plays on everyone's mind. Where do we go when we die? Do we get reincarnated? Is there even really a god?
Quite scary not really the thought of dying but the thought of not existing scares me.
I loved this poem, I'm sorry for mentioning it every single time, but I love love love poems that rhyme and your rhyme scheme really impresses me its so flawless.
Amazing poem and relatable thoughts to almost everyone I am sure.
This poem was really deep in thought, and real, very meaningful.
Keep writing as I am big fan of your work.

Your very much welcome and i will read on and review on haha.
Do we not cease to be daily? We constantly change who we are and what we think. When we fall into a deep sleep, beyond dreaming, we cease to be as well. Then we wake up into the same realm of being. Another similar question with the same answer; What were we before we came to be? Excellent work, Doodley. I find these questions to be the most imorant questions one can ask themselves.
