Restraint

Restraint

A Poem by Dr. Ann Lewis
"

Mental Health

"

You may live in fear, that your 'truth' will cause 'pain'

Because so early in life you learned to 'restrain'

Thoughts and feelings got buried in an inner vault called 'pain'

"No one', not even you, the 'Vault-keeper,'

Knew what to call this reservoir of restrain.

How could others know your 'truth' was silenced as demons of your history?'

Your Pain became the 'portal of every mortal '.

It lasts long enough to teach you that truth is not a game,

Pain is the friend that shatters you to face pain without restrain,

You are not the 'source of trouble,' you are the artist of a life-in-trouble,

Dare to experiment to become a bearer of truth that can face 'pain'.

Simply because you trust what you will gain'.

Give to yourself and others the freedom of words that are undaunted by the 'fear you once held dear.'

Then you become the 'artist of your history and victory!'
