My Mourning Midnight Friend

My Mourning Midnight Friend

A Poem by Matthew R
"

Do you ever search the face of the moon and find it seems to have a face? A face made up of craters? Well... this is what I see in this face and I saw it when the moon was the closest to us.

"
My friend from oh so far,
the High Lord among the stars,
no shared words can we say,
we're too far away,
my friend is sadly a-far.

To me he often seems sad,
memories of the waking nightmares tired children have had,
however once in a while,
I believe I see him smile,
maybe a child's life has been pulled from the bad.

I often want to reach out and comfort him
but there are too many miles of air and space
separating him from my fingertips,
however it makes me more happy
when I see that rare smile
pass over his glowing white face.

I don't know if he can read the words I have written
or the expressions my gazing eyes say,
when I see his mournful eyes
it's little comfort I know
but my heart goes all the way.
