The Unfeeling Kiss

The Unfeeling Kiss

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

The music plays softly.
The reverberating notes
Echo across the crowded room,
Cutting into the silence between the couple
At table six, touching their hearts
In a way that nothing else can.
They sit,
Eating their plate of spaghetti
(A subconscious attempt
To reach the happiness seen
In the movie of their childhood,
Lady and the Tramp).
Except unlike in the movies
Their kiss is completely unfeeling,
Devoid of love.

They both dance
In their masquerade
Their masks of romance
Hiding their true feelings
(Or rather, their lack of such emotions).

Caught in a waltz,
Stepping to the beat
Of Insincerity and Dishonesty,
Twirling around the floor
In shoes filled with Deceit and Corruption,
Spinning with the pretense of love,
The façade of tenderness and passion,
Spiraling
Out of all control.

I think I know these people...well at least I've seen people like that who seem to be acting out their relationship when they go out. I'm usually pretty good at seeing through things like that. Maybe it's not even that I'm perceptive, but that such phoniness isn't really that hard to spot. There is a desperation to it and you really describe that mix of phoniness and desperation so well in this. The sad thing is that they think they're fooling anyone...they're deluding themselves and who knows how long they will continue just like that. So in the end this is a tragedy of the worst kind. The participants are willing.

You did a great job here :)

I found this poem to be very sad. the imagery is excellent, almost like prose. Keep it up

I enjoy the dance reference a whole bunch. (Go figure) I think it follows the story very well.

I kinda wonder what it would be like if it wasn't a poem, but a story.

But I love it all the same.
