3 Ideas.

 I left Sarah in 1912

Silence in the elevator. Me and the man wearing the overcoat. I said,
"you ever been to Tiny Town when the s**t's goin' down?"

"you ever heard the story of the Lost Boy and the Violin?"

"what happened to your son?"

The man in the overcoat walked towards the doors as they withdrew on his floor and left without saying a word.

New Years partonk
Ragging with my bosuns.
Waterbang! A sudden!
Flooding my partonk!
Scrambling atop the bolpods !
The bells ring as we drowntango.

Right, I don't know whether I am over thinking this. But I sort of get the idea that you (you in the elevator) have just died (hence leaving Sarah). And the guy in the overcoat is like a reaper thats come to get you. He doesn't speak so you feel awkward and are either trying to make little jokes or some sort of conversation with him to break the silence and tension and try and comfort yourself (like what Chandler from FRIENDS might do in that situation). And the end seems to clarify perhaps that either you have drowned... or you've wet your pants.

That is what this story means to me.

My first impression was of schizophrenia. Disjointed non-sensical thoughts.
