I'm leaving

I'm leaving

A Poem by Edmund Reilly
"

Just a goodbye

"

I’m leaving.

I’m running away till infinity.

I will run till the furthest point,

Till I am lost in space,

Where time ends and stars shine no more,

Till eternity.

I am leaving!

With my bag empty.

I am leaving everything behind.

The posters on the wall,

The notebook that is open on my desk,

By my pen that’s lying calmly on the side,

Leaving them behind,

I am leaving them all.

Goodbye old memories.

Farewell to all the wounds I could not mend.

Fading smiles,

Forgotten affinities.

I leave them all behind.

And upon them all I will place my heart,

Leaving it behind,

Tonight when I depart.

But I wonder,

What will they say when they see,

That my bed is made but empty?

Goodbye ...

I’m leaving.

Reminded me of the song, "Leaving on a Jet Plane." :)

A very simple yet sophisticated piece of writing.

This situation somehow is very familiar with me too..
Sometime life left us at a corner where we run to the infinity, where will be no known environment, but life is so cruel that it does not allow us to do..
A very well written and it is more to me because I find myself somewhere.
Thanks for sharing

WHAT AM I?: Nephilim WHAT AM I?: Nephilim
A teen boy gets killed, but trades his soul for another chance. He changes. A girl notices the new boy with silver eyes.
Are we not in fact all running? People chase their dreams and their goals. They want happiness or love; and they search for it everywhere. We run and run and we say that we are chasing something; but we are truly running as fast as we can from ourselves. People will do it their entire lives, only to realize too late that everything they ever needed was within themselves. I say that if you've decided to turn away from the world and turn towards yourself, you have in fact stopped running; and have started the most important journey of all.

I wonder where we go from here. We must going somewhere. Or nowhere. But I do feel convinced that the world stops for a second, takes note of our departure, then moves on. The repetition "I'm leaving" indicates a strong need to draw attention to the leaving, the departure, so the detachment from the world is not complete, which is a good thing. A very engaging and thinking poem to read. Appreciated so much.

this sounds like unrequited love, perhaps. leaving everything behind including the heart. possibly wanting to start anew. a sad poem well penned by someone who has no intention of running away. you could have fooled me :)

Oh! And thank you for dropping!
this is a fascinating notion for all of us humans. To run from it all. I love the idea of running to infinity, it gives a great mental image.

Thank you once again! :)
To fight or to take flight.
I'd take flight any day.

Never been good at fighting though...

This reminded me of how much I wanted to leave everything behind at different stages of my life. I realised that running away wasn't going to solve anything though, and now that I'm in a much better place, I never want to leave.

You have to go back!
I don't like just running away from everything...
it just doesn't work that way.
It'll show up again- when you press those keys...
you can't really escape it all.

This is a very sad poem. There are some times when all feels hopeless and you want to run away from it all.....and you leave behind your heart. Lovely poem
