Faceless Dog and Faceless Boy

Inspired by an illustration...

A faceless boy

And a faceless dog

Stood side by side

Silent and questioning

Who are you?

Boy asked dog.

I do not know.

Said dog.

 

Who are you?

Dog asked boy.

I do not know.

Said boy.

So they stood in silence

A little more

Their questions

Slowly pending.

 

Ponder they did

For an hour or so

Till dog spoke up

From the ground.

Since I don’t know

Who I am

And you don’t know

Who you are,

Shall we name ourselves?

For everything has a name.

 

Yes, said boy

I think it so.

I shall call

myself boy. Said boy.

And I shall call

myself dog. Said dog.

 

Good. Said dog.

For I say,

You can be nothing

Unless you know

Who you are.

Excellent message. This poem had a good rhythm as well. Inspiration from images is actually not as common as you'd think it would be. You do not need a thousand words to convey your thoughts of this image. You do a great job of that. I like the simplicity and elegance of this piece.
