Belonging.

Belonging.

A Poem by Lauren Wicker
"

A poem about my decision to stop worrying so much. (The poem is a response to Salty Eyes, by the Matches)

"

She didn’t stop because someone told her to.
She stopped because she realized that it was okay to stop,

When she heard Shawn Harris say that she belonged.

It didn’t matter that the only thing she belonged to was a song,

Or that her salty tears were the only ones doing the belonging,

Or that Shawn Harris had no real authority to claim that she did in fact belong--he, after all, was nothing but a rockstar

alone in his somewhat selfish principles.

What mattered was that someone acknowledged that she didn't feel alright

And that she needed to be proven wrong.

Shawn Harris wasn’t God,
But to her, on that rainy April day,

He was as close as he will ever come to it.
