Edge of the World

Edge of the World

A Poem by Melissa Rose
"

Watch it burn

"

The world is upside down.

Sitting on the iron beam skeleton of a rusted old skyscraper.

The city in the distance burns like the setting sun.

The sky is black with ash and crackles with heat lightning.

He holds me under his arm with a single cigarette shared between us.

Our leather jackets smell like cold.

The piercing on my tongue clacks against my teeth.

All the screams and sirens are an orchestra under our dangling feet.

Here,

On the edge of the world,

Sometimes all you can do is watch it burn.

Author's Note

Melissa Rose
I was really torn between putting it under poetry or fiction. I know it's in poetryish format, but I want to make it into a novel at some point so I suppose for now it'll remain under poetry until get around to it.

Very witty, deep, and intriguing. The only way to know the full extent of this particular experience is to travel to the edge of the world. Great write :) I really enjoyed this. :)

I loved the burning feel of your piece. This was a poignant piece, one that I read over and over.

This is grisly and beautiful. Reminds me of Death Cab's Grapevine Fires.
