Working for Love

Working for Love

A Poem by ElizabethAnn

I keep on working for everyone; always trying to please
Inside my conscience tells me to get up off my knees
Stop begging for forgiveness for a wrong you didn’t do
Because no matter what you say they’ll tell you wrong is always you
They tell me I’m wrong, but it feels so right
and the connection we have is a beautiful sight
Why should anyone care that our skin’s a different color
You take one look at him and say that I should find another
You keep on yelling, nagging, screaming, hating, making excuses
But soon, you’ll find your hateful words have turned up useless
Your words bring tears to my eyes, but they only touch the surface
Because my feelings from within are saved for those who deserve it.

Author's Note

ElizabethAnn
I wrote this when I was about 17 when I was getting a lot of hate for dating someone black. He wrote lyrics all the time, and he shared some with me once that he wrote about our relationship and how people were just plain rude because I wasn't black or he wasn't white. Wish I still had what he wrote, but here's what I wrote adding to his work. Hope you enjoy my attempt at rap. :)

This is impressive, every line gets more and more realistic and quite true. I really think this one is great!

This is a great rap. To me, lyrics and poetry are nearly the same thing so when you have one, you can have the other. If that makes sense. I like this alot. Does he still write, too?

Oh god Liz what loveliness, how I felt this so quick, how I loved your words and feelings
I work for everyone,I loved everyone..Try to please everyone
Inside of me tells me to get up on my knees..
And never beg forgiveness for things I never did
They tell me I am wrong,But I never felt so right
The love we have is such a beautiful sight
Why should you care if his skin is black or yellow
Just look at him and then tell if i could find any of his likes
Its always that with you, yelling screaming hating, thats all you do
You words bring tears to my eyes, but never touch deep inside
My feelings deep within are saved for those who really deserve
Oh what loveliness, those words did shine, showed a heart of gold inside
lovely write..

Wouldn't life be so much simplier if racism was non-existent? But we do live in such a society...

P.S. It was an interesting attempt to rap.
