Friends

Friends

A Poem by Emily

Youve been my friend for years

but now you cant see me through youre tears

But still you deny

that he could ever make you cry

I tried to help

I tried to explain

But it has all been in vain

Because you've changed

Youre my best friend

my sister in a way

But now it hurts too much to stay

I wish you would realize

I wish you could know

How much it hurts to let you go

Because youre my friend

Because youre my sister

I'll remember the you that I know

And I'll be there when she decides to show

Love can often drive a wedge between friendships. I think you capture that very well and your closing is a nice homage to another truth, that loves come and go, but true friends are forever.

The only thing that detracted from the poem for me, was the almost cliched "tried to explain/all in vain" rhyme. While it fits well in the context of the verse, it reminds me too much of the classic novel opening," It was a dark and stormy night...".
