Her Journey

Her Journey

A Poem by Theo Ratcliffe

This world that was limitless now has expectations and limitations.

But something has changed.

The chains that are holding her back became tighter.

People want her to be a speech writer.

For her words have a meaning,

This life is a journey,

where we must escape from the chains of normality,

break through the doors of reality,

and be free from the prison of humanity.

In order to be oneself, you must be your own self,

have no hesitations, limitations, or expectations,

this is your own life,

do what you love and love what you do.

With that, her journey continued.

Along the way, she made friends, people she could depend on.

So they made a promise, let's live our lives to the fullest!

We have no one to stop us, what are we waiting for!

So they did until she could no longer forbid the feelings she felt.

And in came sadness,

as she became surrounded by darkness.

The pain became like a drug, she was addicted.

And alas was afflicted.

Her mind wondered, her writing plundered, and she fell.

Her shoulders were sore, the weight was too much to store,

she just wanted to be free, like a bird she saw over the sea.

Spending its life soaring. Watching as the waves crashed upon the shore.

She wanted to go back to how she was before,

when it was just her and her words.

When she could be who she was, without any laws, bylaws, or flaws.

Where her mind was her own.

And so,

with the chains binding her tighter,

so pushed forward with desire,

to see her dreams through to the end.

For that's all she could ever intend.
