"Lullaby of the Damned."

"Lullaby of the Damned."

A Poem by Emilie Renee Barnum

Please don't call anymore,

it hurts to hear your voice on the phone.

Please don't give me hope that it could be like before,

because I'm adapting to life on my own.

The lullaby you'd sing to me when I was young,

is flowing through my head.

This is what you sung,

but now the words are cold and dead.

"Hush a bye baby don't you cry,

daddy's gonna sing you a lullaby."

But the words no longer offer comfort,

they no longer relieve me of worries and pain.

Because there's only anger and hurt,

it's all that remains.

So I'll sing this lullaby,

right before i close my eyes.

"Hush a bye baby don't make a sound,

before you fall into an eternal slumber,

and the razor hits the ground.

You know pain,

you endure it well,

because your life was a living hell.

Rock a bye baby with bloodshot eyes,

he'll realize what he did,

when he sees this suicide."

So let me sing this lullaby of the damned for you,

over and over again,

until I get it through.

What once healed me as a child,

has become a twisted sort of pleasure.

It's soothing to my jaded heart,

a sick sort of treasure.

Maybe I'm a masochist,

because I'm in love with the cuts you're forming around my heart.

Could you put me out of my misery,

and just tear me apart.

Alas,

it would be too sweet an end.

For if you should relieve me of this wretched life,

it'd almost be as if you were trying to amend.

Amend for all the hurt you've cast upon my life,

all the bitterness and callousness.

All the strife,

and yet... this one thing I must confess.

I'm terribly in love with this pain,

I'm terribly in love with the thought of never waking to the light of another day.

I'm terribly in love with the feeling of the cuts along my veins,

and I'm terribly in love with yesterday...
