The Mysterious Ways of Water

The Mysterious Ways of Water

A Poem by Elodie Thompson

Water is comparable to people,

Wouldn't you say?

Some of them poised,

And some of them graceful,

In their own sultry ways.

Some of them soiled,

Some of them murky

Supporting a carousal of decay.

Water is also at times predictable,

When the clouds usher its way.

Preventing the rapturous foulness of the air,

Guiding the raindrops

With plenty of care.

But at times water is also unpredictable.

Like the hurricanes and tornadoes

Which claim to be passing on their way.

Water is also diverse

Because it looks astoundingly different

In a variety of ways.

Some of it clear

With a lurid splash of blue

And some of it morbid,

Desperately seeking for the monumental hue.

Some of it dark

For the depth it contains

And some of it light

After all the filters

It passed through.

Water is comparable to people,

Can’t you see?

It tolerates all the acidity,

All the trash

And all the dust

Until one day it finally decides to erupt.

It is also gullible

From time to time.

Transporting the richness of the trades

As the hours pass by.

Water is also responsible for love and loss.

Burring those who fell overboard,

A graveyard of lust and unnamed romances

Still searching for the shore.

Water is comparable to people,

Can’t you hear?

Sometimes a sorrowful wail.

Sometimes a shriek of the condemned

That grasps its tears.

Sometimes it’s left all alone

Trapped within its current state.

Willing to stand by

What it bears.

Water is comparable to people,
Can’t you see ?

The segregation of depth

Hiding between the folds of teal.

Inoculant glances

That point out their novice retreats.

An inaugurating distinction

Between all the types of water,

That should not have been perceived

Water is comparable to people,

If you don’t know.

They stay together

Forming an elongated trail of water

That can never to torn.

They may not look the same,

They may not feel the same

But the unity that exists between them

Can never go around unnamed.

Thank you very much.
Interesting soliloquy, Being 50 to 75 percent water our relationship with water is almost spiritual. I am not sure I understand your poem but I find it intrigue food for thought.
