Jealous

Jealous

A Poem by Evelynn

You and I
We were never meant to be
I can see that now
So I have to set you free
You have her
And I finally understand
She might not be the one
But I know that I’ll never hold your hand
I have me
And that will always be enough
So you can have your girlfriends
And I will act all tough
But even though I say
That I don’t love you anymore
I’ll always be jealous
When another girl walks through that door

No good comes from jealousy. And frankly, I wouldn't want to be near someone who made me jealous or envious. I'm just not wired that way. I like people I feel comfortable with and mentors that I can learn from. I went to a celebration once in a very ritzy museum with wine, hors d'oeuvres and classical music by a Bolivian guitarist. I had a great time and met some amazing people including a striking fellow from Turkiye. That's the way they spell "Turkey". But as I moved among the artists I said very little about myself until I was asked what my art was. I said, oh, I'm only a poet. The crowd was then coming to me and I felt like a celebrity for the rest of the night. My point is, who we seem and who we appear to be are only facades of illusion. "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country" sort of thing. Never be jealous of someone who doesn't want to be with you or of someone who does. The first is silliness and the second is pointless. Respect yourself and never sell short your own abilities. Just some sound advice from the peanut gallery. Cheers.

This is so powerful. At least to me, I understand the undertone of deep sadness and hurt of when someone you love walks away and is happier with someone else. I really like this.
