Falling in Love Out of Need

Falling in Love Out of Need

A Poem by Red Brick Keshner

.

I have fallen madly
irretrievably & unashamedly
in love with you:

Just as that swathe
of hair that won't stay in place
by gel or product or spit;

You have fallen blandly,
irrevocably & unscathedly
out of love with me:

Just as that scab
off skin on the mend that's pink
by band aid & ointment fix'd.

.

I gave up on love many moons ago my dear friend. John Donne wrote. "We don't find love. Love find us." I am always on the wrong bus. I liked the wanting and the heartbreak. The ending was amazing and thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry. I did enjoy.

So the question is.. Do you love 'love' or the person who elicits that emotional high from you.. Like a drug addict getting his latest greatest dose, as much out of need as out of habit... Sometimes we need that high.. Like the junky needs his next dose..

But writers are a tricky lot, after all, our real commitment is to the cluster of words we create, and people and interactions are mainly just fuel for the creative process..

Nice write.

That indeed is a not so obscure aspect of said ‘love.’ Thanks DW.

Sure thing. 😁
I like this, two sides of the coin are shown clearly. To fall in love as the one you love falls out of love. I feel sadness mixed with bitterness here.
