Anniversary

Anniversary

A Poem by DrD

Another anniversary . . . .

Did you think I would forget?

There’s fresh roses on the table

And I’ve opened a bottle of Merlot.

Tonight I will play soft oldies

And light the fireplace for affect

The house will smell of oven fresh bread

And candles will wear crowns of flame.

Hasselback potatoes and baked salmon

Your summer salad with cucumbers

All for you . . . . all you liked best . . . .

I wish you were here.

oh....my....how the simplest thing - the most normal of little love poems - how can I say this - as I read it felt like oh lovely - a nice sentimental poem commemorating that thing we do as we grow older together - it will make me smile...and then five little words and I am literally on the verge of an ugly crying jag.
Totally caught me off guard....
Well penned.

Wherever you want. You are my type.
From the bottle of Merlot, to the oven fresh bread, this captured my heart! My birthday was yesterday...I am thrilled for you, to have such a love as this, to still feel a part of her there, with you!

The "hasselback potatoes and baked salmon" leave me at a loss for words...so typical of your poetry, David!

My best,
Kelly

You are always so gracious with your reviews, Kelly. I deeply appreciate you.
Oh my friend, there is so much I adored in this one, you really turn loss of a loved one into a celebration of love, and joy, and rememberance. I so admire this. Each line is filled by a most loving heart.

You are very welcome my friend! good to read you again! I've missed a lot!
Details that bring the reader into the scene, and then heartbreak... You paint the love and the longing beautifully.
