A Poem by DrD

A view of the under belly of America

How easily they promise and accuse

Rattle the skeletons and view dirty laundry

In the name of a process

The presidential candidates debate.

But blood drips from every syllable

And bankers watch with dark, grim smiles

While noble families sleep beneath bridges

Oh, say can you see?

Open war against brown skinned humans

Militarized police with no inhibitions

The statistical lies about unemployment

“Teach them what we want them to know” education

And from podiums come not a single answer

No one’s to blame, but I can promise!

If you give me the key to the Oval Office.

Is our flag still there?

Remember the time when we felt secure?

America was just and pure

Corporations produced and honored workers

Men were elected as an honor to serve

And those who wanted to work " could.

It is gone now, perhaps forever

Freedom was lobbied away to another false fear.

Oer the land of the free and the home of the brave.

You speak a true observation here. Honestly, I think we have the greatest country in the world for many reasons. We also have some of the greatest problems growing in our country... Greatness breads greatness, both good and evil.
Ignorance was the bliss of our forefathers. Greed and corruption fueled the explorations and exploitations of the "New World" mania, as Europe expanded across the globe...
Yet, in all of the ugliness, America has always had a foundational belief in human freedoms and opportunity. Can we no longer read the voice engraved upon the Lady Liberty?
We have work to do. We need to be pragmatic for sure. Yet, we can never loose site of human "nobility" and whence it comes.

What a perfect write for the times we face.

I used to beat myself up with politics, but the big picture scared the crap out of me, and the not being able to do anything but vote for the crap running left me with the futile desire to shoot myself in the foot. Now our choice is between who "they" choose to be the most cooperative, do we really get to vote?
