Why Do I Desire Old Poems?

Why Do I Desire Old Poems?

A Poem by Ezekiel Silver
"

Year poem was written: 2012

"

Why do I desire old poems?

Is it because they come from the minds of the past?

Or just because of how the words flow?

Perhaps such poems give me a glimpse of the past?

Or how they continue to build the future?

                   Nonetheless such words inspire.

Such words nourish the heart and soul.

And some day modern poems will join them.

                     Then another will ask themself.

"Why do I desire old poems?"

This is a lovely little poem! There is a whole sub-genre of poetry of poems about poems, which is one of my favorite styles. This would fit right in. I often write poems like this as a block-breaker for writer's block. When the words just won't flow, writing about poetry seems to get my creative juices flowing. Hope to see more like this!

Old poetry seem to be peaceful and easier to read. Depends on the type of poem also. I like the thoughts and the logic of the poem. Nice use of repetition to make your point. Thank you for sharing the excellent poem.

This is quite different from what you usually write...and quite good.

I like old poems myself because of continuity they give to the present...and you're right; someday our new poems will be old poems for someone else.
