heartless souls

heartless souls

A Poem by WILDERNESS

Heartless Souls

An angel of God

Came down to earth

Is there any man? he said

Who would trade his heart

For eternal bliss in heaven

A man came running

"Take my heart", he pleaded

But when he reached inside

He found, he had no heart

I gave my heart to my life

He cried in anguish

Then came another

But he had no heart either

Alas! He whimpered

I gave my heart to women

Then came another

But his heart was at his land

And one had lost his heart

To the wealth he accumulated

One had given it to his fame

One to his fortune

And one to his career

So thousands came

All heartless souls

And the angel of God

Returned to heavens
